Starting Out: What business ideas suit SaaS?

SaaS products are successful when they have lots of clients. Simply said, “it’s a volume’s business.” Ideas that work well on a SaaS model need to meet a fairly generic need (albeit with customizable options) and there should be a high number of potential clients.

Google’s Chrome OS: Reaching for the Cloud and SaaS

For me, Google's Chrome OS is a MASSIVE deal as it basically acknowledges the death of traditional desktop applications in favour of SaaS as everything moves to the cloud. I know it won't be an overnight transition but when a giant like Google make such a bold move, surely people will see that SaaS really is the way forward.

Cloud Confusion Amongst IT Professionals

Here are the results from a survey of senior UK IT directors and managers about Cloud Computing. Alarmingly 41% of them admitted that they "didn’t know" what Cloud Computing is!!! Even more reason for us all to get out there and clear up this confusion.

SaaS skips the Great Recession

Let's face it, entrepreneurs want to get rich. And the people who bankroll them -- angel investors, venture capitalists and, yes, even banks -- want to get even richer. But what's a money-hungry capitalist to do in times like these? Weep? Wail? Wish for the good ol' IPO days?

No. Go SaaS.

5 SaaS myths busted

Despite a growing track record of success, software as a service is still misunderstood by a surprising number of IT and business decision-makers. It's time to put to rest some misconceptions about SaaS. Let's bust the following five most common myths.

1. SaaS is a peripheral trend
2. SaaS offers just one type of application
3. SaaS just offers skinnier versions of more sophisticated applications
4. SaaS is less reliable and less secure than on-premises applications
5. IT professionals are uniformly opposed to SaaS

Home-based business usage of SaaS shows explosive

Forrester forecasts SaaS future in Enterprise

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is set for significant growth in the enterprise over the coming decade, according to Forrester Research.

Forrester evaluated a range of SaaS technologies for the report, which is the latest in its TechRadar series. It predicts strong growth in customer relationship management (CRM), human capital management, Web conferencing, collaboration, IT service management and online backup.

http://www.onwindows.com/Articles/Forrester-forecasts-SaaS-future/3606/Default.aspx

I'm not sure I agree that the future of SaaS is purely in the Enterprise though. Recently I've been reading more and more about SMB's finding it to be a great fit for them.
